5One Fantastic Helmet!
By MCasper
I've been riding motorcycles all my life. Racing motocross growing up and riding street bikes as an adult. I have worn lots of helmets. The helmet I'm replacing is a Shuberth Concept(original). I purchased the Furtive EXO-900. I'm extremely pleased with this helmet: build, fit, features, comfort, styling

As I'm writing this, I have owned this helmet for 5 days and have ridden 1100 miles with it. 450 miles longest non-stop stint.

Build
Build quality is on par or exceeding that of my Shuberth. Materials appear very good, finish is very good. No sloppy assembly

Fit
I measure a large and I purchased a large. The helmet fits snug but as expected. Initial fit was very tight. A lot of people report this helmet runs 1 size small. It agree, it does run slightly small but mine is not 1 size small. After riding for 2 full days, the helmet has started to form to my head as helmets are designed to do. Mine does fit tighter in the forehead than my Shuberth.

Features
Feature set is great. From the location of the chin bar release, the venting, the internal sun shade, pump fit system. The chin bar can be released easily with one thumb with gloves on. The venting performs much better than my Shuberth and is less noisy. My ride this weekend took me from 90 degree Savannah weather to low 40's in the mountains of Tennessee. Venting was flexible enough to accommodate this large swing with comfort. The internal sunshade offers more coverage than my Shuberth. When lowered, it stops just above my nose. The tinting could stand to be darker or better yet, polarized. Initially, the operation of the sun shield was harsh. The slide lever was difficult to move. This however loosened up within a day and now it operates smoothly but lock in place securely. Ventilation to my face when sun shield down is still very good. I thought I would not like going back to the D-ring clasp but I believe I like it better than the quick release on the Shuberth many because the quick release was picky about alignment.

Comfort
I'm very happy with the comfort. I like a snug helmet. The distance from my chin to the inside of the chin bar is very close. I can extend my chin and press it against the bar. I don't find this a problem as others have mentioned. Because of the fit, I don't have a need to use the pump system so I can't comment on it.

Styling
I like the style very much. The graphics on the Furtive are very attractive while still being subtle. The metalistic borders around the vents are finished in a titanium chrome type finish. Nice.

Noise
The big item for modular helmets. Compared to my Shuberth (C1) this helmet is much quieter. It is however still noisy. The noise on the EXO-900, with my fit, is localized at the chin bar pivot point. Where as the noise in my Shuberth was omni present. Came from everywhere. I' m so use to wearing ear plugs on long rides, and wouldn't have it any other way, that I don't have a problem with the noise. I am going to experiment with adding some filler to the gap around the pivot point just to see if I can improve for around town riding. Even though this helmet is quieter than what I've been using for many years, since the source of the noise seems to be so defined, I'm going to attempt to improve it.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this helmet and would definitely buy again.
